Welcome to the third most used language in America! Students will learn about the origin and structure of American Sign Language (ASL) as we build our signing vocabulary using a variety of engaging activities such as stories, crafts, songs and games.
In addition, time will be taken throughout the course to improve our understanding of Deaf Culture and history. For example: How do you get a deaf person’s attention? How do deaf people use things like the telephone? What is a hearing aid? What is it like to be deaf?
Small homework assignments may also be given to help students learn this important skill. Parents are welcome to sit in during the class.
Detailed lesson plans are available for viewing at HSRx.
